WMP Excellence Awards

If you know of a deserving police officer, PCSO, police staff, special constable, volunteer or team who deserve to be recognised then this is your chance to show what they mean to you. The judges will be particularly looking out for nominees who have embraced the force’s values:

  • Service
  • Integrity
  • Compassion
  • Professionalism
  • Equality, diversity & human rights

So if you know an individual, or team that deserves to be recognised, and would like to make a nomination you can do so in one of two ways.

Nomination Categories

Doing it Differently Award

Any individual or team who has challenged the status quo by trying something new and innovative, which in turn has had a benefit to the force and community. Innovative ideas could include introducing new processes to save time and money.

Police Cadet of the Year

Any police cadet who has successfully and consistently supported force priorities in the last year and has gone above and beyond what would normally be expected of them.

Police Community Support Officer of the Year

Individuals will be judged on their personal skills, how they add value to policing their communities through listening, recording and solving community issues and how the force benefits from the high-quality community intelligence they bring.

Police Officer of the Year

Officers will be judged on personal skills, the contribution they have made to the local community or the force as a whole, their customer service with members of the public and working relationships with their colleagues.

Police Staff of the Year

Individuals or teams will be judged on their commitment, their positive contribution towards achieving the force’s vision and objectives, their customer service to the public, colleagues and other departments and their innovation and creativity within the role.

Special Constable of the Year

Special Constabulary officers will be judged on the contribution, commitment and dedication they have shown to the community and policing. This could be focussed in one local area or the force as a whole.

Student Officer of the Year

To recognise student officers, including new specials constables, who have made an immediate impact, shown exceptional commitment, a passion for policing and demonstrated the force values.

The Barrie Simpson Police Investigator of the Year Award

In memory of Detective Superintendent Barrie Simpson. Any member of the force who has displayed excellent investigative skills, including personal and professional resilience during an investigation, the use of innovative methods of investigation, the coordination of large-scale investigation and the appropriate identification and support of vulnerable victims and witnesses. Entries should be based on a case that has now been finalised through the court process, although findings and sentencing will not have a negative bearing on the judging process.

The Chris Johnson Driving Diversity Award

Named in honour of a former Assistant Chief Constable. For an individual or team who has made a positive impact across the field of diversity. This could include tackling discrimination, encouraging equality and inclusion or promoting the power of diversity across the force.

The Andrew Le Comte Memorial Award for Inspirational Leadership

Named in honour of PC Andrew Le Comte. The winner will have inspired others with a passion for policing, allowing others to achieve and reach their potential while offering outstanding leadership skills.

Cadets

The Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Thank You Award

Awarded to an individual or group who have worked with the police, providing assistance through local initiatives such as Street Watch or community groups.

Volunteer of the Year

Any police support volunteer who has successfully and consistently supported force priorities in the last year and have gone above and beyond what would normally be expected of a volunteer.

Local Policing Award

Awarded to a team who have supported the local policing ambition, meeting the expectations of local residents and partners to improve performance, driving intervention and prevention and exploring partnership collaboration opportunities.
